About David Thomas Miller Jr., age 60, lost his long battle with cancer on May 8, 2023.

David was a 1981 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School. David played every sport available: basketball, football, golf, and baseball. Every sport he played turned to gold in his hands. He was an incredible, natural talent. He has trophies, some three feet high. He lettered in baseball and in golf while in high school.

He was the best baseball player around in his time, and the only baseball player from Erwin High School to be drafted twice into the major leagues. He signed contracts with the San Francisco Giants and later with the Seattle Mariners.

He received a full scholarship to play baseball with Walters State College where his team went to the Junior College World Series Grand Junction where he was 7th in the nation in Home Runs, and 4th in RBIs.

David was the son of Martha Miller Wood and the late David Thomas (Tom) Miller Sr. He is survived by his mother, his two sisters, Kimberly Miller Maney (Mark), Karen Miller Staggs (Greg), brother Christopher (Chip) Thomas Miller, sons Alex Miller and Jacob Miller, many uncles and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Most recently, David worked for MOR PPM, inc. based out of South Carolina as a Project Superintendent for the company.

David loved riding his motorcycles, cooking, raising a garden, and making up nicknames for everyone he met. His life here on earth was too short.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Asheville First Church of the Nazarene at 1:00pm. Visitation from 12:00pm – 1:00pm.

The family wishes to thank CarePartners Solace Hospice Center nursing staff who so lovingly took such great care of David.
