About Thomas J. R. Dyer, age 67, passed away August 24, 2012 at the VA Medical Center, Johnson City, TN. He was the son of the late Lloyd & Rebecca Dyer of Asheville, NC. He is at Home now, safe and well. Tom was a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School, attended Blanton’s Business College, and UNC-A earning a degree in management and Human Resources. He was a Combat Engineer, Master Sgt in the U. S. Army followed by 8 years with the National Guard. Tom was branch Manager with the Bank of Asheville before becoming Vice President of Branch Operations. He changed venues and began traveling with his job from Pennsylvania to Georgia then to Boone, NC working for Samaritan’s Purse; prior to retirement, he was with NN Ball & Roller. For the past 12 years Tom, wife Rhonda and son Thomas Jacob made their home in Erwin. He had a love of Western movies, rodeos, square dancing, fishing and for several years was active in Kiwanis. During his life, Tom played music with the Cox Brothers, The Chuck Wagon Gang, and Squire Parsons. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rhonda Fraley Dyer; their son, Thomas Jacob Dyer of Corpus Christi, Texas, and little Mindy, his “mighty little watch dog.” A sister, Debbie Ford and husband Carlos, brother Jerry Dyer and wife Terri, mother-in-law Robin Fraley, sister-n-law Gail Grissom and husband David, brother-in-law Vic Fraley and wife Angie, all of the Hendersonville NC area, sister-in-law Brenda Reece and husband Larry of Leicester NC; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends special in his heart, Charlie Wakefield, Betsy Pitcock, ‘pickin’ buddies Don Whitt, Jack Jones, and Linda Flack. Don, Earline & Dr. T, how special you are to us. Visitation will be Monday, August 27, beginning at 6 PM followed by a Remembrance Service with Pastor Garland James. Valley Funeral Home, Erwin, TN, is in charge of arrangements.
