About Julia Diane Young Manuel

July 10, 1959 ~ July 31, 2016
Born in: Buncombe Co., NC,
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Surrounded by her family, Julia Diane Young Manuel passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on July 31, 2016, after an amazingly brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born July 10, 1959 to her surviving parents, James and Virginia Creasman Young. A devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister, she was known by some as "Julie" and by others as "Diane", but by all who met her as a warm and caring person. She was an artist, writer, and lover of nature, whether mountain, sea, or cosmos. She had a strong passion and tender heart for animals, especially dogs. She loved them all--big and small. Born in Asheville, she graduated from Erwin High School in 1977, attending Western Carolina University afterwards, where she fell in love with her future husband. She lived long stretches of her life in Salisbury and Rutherfordton, N.C., though the majority was spent in the Leicester area, to which she returned for good in 2006, happy to be near family. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, John T. Manuel, and her two sons - who were the apple of her eye: Steven, 30, and Johnny, 27; her sisters Debra Young Brown and her husband, David, and Donna Young Kocot and her husband, Marty, and many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitations will be held at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2. A graveside service will be held at Green Hills Cemetery on Wednesday, August 3, at 10:00 a.m. At other times the family will be receiving guests at 49 Whispering Woods Dr., Asheville, N.C. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brother Wolf or any other favorite charity of their liking.
