After graduating from Clarkston, Janet became a nurse and worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac and also Lourde's Nursing Home. In 1987 she moved to Trinity, Alabama, to be a caregiver for her father, Chester Milligan, who'd had a stroke. She became a resident of AL.
