About | Paul was born in Buffalo, but his family moved to Clarence when he was 6. An accordion player from age 5, he formed a five-piece band right out of high school called Paul McCarthy and the Talk of the Town. The band played music for all occasions, until the late 1980s. He taught music to people recovering from drug addiction at the Iroquois Rehabilitation Center during the late 1960s. Later, while employed as a building inspector and zoning officer for the Town of Clarence, he also gave music lessons in his home on instruments including piano, organ, accordion, guitar and bass. He served in many town positions, including Ethics Board member, secretary to the Planning Board, secretary to Board of Appeals, Inter-Community Committee member and Governmental Committee member. Paul served as supervisor of the Town of Clarence from 1966 until 1997, when he retired. He continued to play the accordion at nursing homes. A member of the Niagara Frontier Regional Model A Club and Street Angels Car Club, he owned a 11930 Model A Ford, which he purchased at age 15 and showed off locally at cruise nights. He was a member of the Clarence Fire Company for 40 years and served as a commissioner. |
