A Mass of Christian Burial for John Edward Owen II, 37, a teacher, former Navy officer and Eagle Scout, will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Our lady of Peace Catholic Church. Owen, valedictorian of the 1967 graduating class at Clarence High School, drowned Monday (July 20, 1987) while swimming in the Shoshone Park Pool.
He received his bachelor's degree at Georgetown University in 1971 and later served as a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy. He did graduate work at Columbia University and the State University of Buffalo.
Friends said he was assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 463 in Clarence and that he and tutored children who were ill. He was taking several course at UB at the time of his death.
He is survived by his parents John and Norbertina Owen of Clarence.
