Events | Yoder, Samuel L. - Samuel Lloyd Yoder, age 74, went home to be with his Lord early Sunday morning, June 8, 2025. He was born February 12, 1951, in Buffalo. He was the son of the late Lloyd and Mary Yoder. After graduating from Clarence High School in 1969, he attended Abilene Christian University in West Texas, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Music and Bible. Sam made a living as a finish carpenter in Texas for many years, taking great pride in his craft working on million dollar homes. He returned to New York 24 years ago to marry his love, Carol (née Conkle), who survives him. Sam is also survived by his sister, Penny Yoder, several in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, community members, and beloved furry friends, who will deeply miss his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. Sam was a man of deep faith. He and Carol had an opportunity to do mission work in the Philippines. They were always willing to make room at their table for new friends. Sam’s love for his church, history, singing in multiple men’s choirs, and traveling with Carol was only exceeded by his enthusiasm for hunting. Spending time in the woods with his friends chasing an elusive prey was his true passion. His most prized trophy was a 300 pound black bear he took down in Canada in 2017. Sam’s interest in history motivated him to travel the globe with his favorite travel companion, Carol. They have had adventures from the Arctic circle to President Lincoln’s birthplace, so he could add a few more dates to an unbelievably extensive list he kept in his head, to be recalled at a moment’s notice. Sam was truly gifted when revisiting these experiences by storytelling them with colorful exuberance for all to enjoy. Visitation will be at the Amherst Church of Christ at 8285 Transit Road in East Amherst, Friday, June 20, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Service at 11:30 a.m. and lunch for some supportive companionship. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation Inc. at https://diabetesfoundationinc.org/?form=donate |

Back in high school, Sam performed in "150 MacDougall" a musical play written by 2 other students, Rob Lawson and Denise Decker. His singing was so good, and the play was so fantastic it compared with anything on Broadway. My prayers and sympathy, Carol.
