Events Charles Howard Johnt, or 'Howie', as his loved ones knew him, was a man of immense character and outstanding achievements. Born on the 21st of April, 1930, in Buffalo, NY, Charles embraced life with a spirit of fortitude and determination that left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. The world was privileged to have him for 93 years, until his passing on December 30, 2023.

A true patriot, Charles courageously served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as a member of the 3rd Naval District recruiting team. He recruited cadets for the Naval Aviation Program. His time in the armed forces was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his country. After his military service, Charles continued to exemplify strength and perseverance in his academic pursuits. He earned a master's degree at the University of Buffalo, where he also showcased his athletic prowess as a member of the basketball and baseball club teams. His love for sports led him to a fulfilling career as a Physical Education teacher at Harris Hill Elementary School and coached the boys varsity golf and basketball teams at Clarence High School.Known fondly as 'Coach', he not only instructed but also inspired countless students. He served the Clarence Central School District until his retirement in 1986, leaving a legacy of passion and dedication. He was also the Recreation Director for the Town of Clarence for 51 years.

Howie was also a beloved family man. He was the proud father of Sarah (David) Maloney, Darcy (William Jr.) Gehen and the late David (Christine) Johnt. He was a doting grandfather to Clayton Johnt, Courtney Johnt, Trevor Gehen, Taylor Gehen, and William Gehen III. Charles was predeceased by his son D. Howard Johnt and his cherished wife, Nancy Johnt, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their marriage on June 22, 1957. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Gunner.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 4 to 6 PM at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC., 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY 14001. A burial will take place in Williamsville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of of flowers, donations can be made to The Buffalo- Niagara Honor Flight.

Howie lived life to the fullest, and his favorite quote, "Getting old ain't for sissies," encapsulates his indefatigable spirit. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Coached me in basketball for 1974 1975 Red Devils. Went deer hunting at his cabin with my stepfather who taught Phys Ed at Clarence. Always had a joke handy or nickname for his ball players.
