Served in the Civil Engineer Corps of the Navy and worked with the Seabees and Naval facilities construction. Awarded Bronze Star for service in Viet Nam.

Marine Corps, 13 Years
went thru boot camp at Parris Island ,S.C.1963 platoon 4-A ( Women Marines) I worked for first black SgtMajor of Marine Corps , who was a China Marine, Montford Point Marine SgtMajor Edjar R. Huff at 1st ITR Camp Geiger (Camp Lejeune) N.C.went to amphious training at Coronado, Calif. Where West Coast Navy Seals go thru training ( it was their "Hell Week" while we were there) water-proofed radios for landing took rubber rafts out in ocean learned to rescue the person opposite you if they went overboard.learned to get back in raft when it was over turned,etc..MWTC Bridgeport ,Calif "PickleMeadows".(Mountain warfare trng )Repelled out of hell hole and off of bldgs ,etc. Was a wire chief with a 175mm(SP) & 8"(SP) artillery, we had never fired the 8"(SP) our people hadn't been to artillery school ! We competed again active Duty & Reserve Army & Marine corps unit at Ft.Bragg,N>C> We won the trophy for the exercise and got a Presidential Unit Citation. I believe it was due to Col. H.A. Ressmeyer who observed and trained us I-I OKC. Also,trained on various weapons,worked in aviation shop on F-4J & F4N .participated in Red Flag at Nellis AFB, Luke AFB,AZ,MCAS Yuma,AZ,MCAS Kanohoe Bay, Hawaii, Dets to 29 Palms,California (in Movah Had to watch out for rats in bunkers Possibly plague ( we took shots for that) + rattlesnakes etc, desert With Artillery. temp got up to 123 degress ! twenty mile marches 10K runs. Nas Oceana,Va school.( watched Navy Seals (West Coast) make night time landing. 2nd in command gave us Marines with a high enough clearance a 2 1/2 hour tour thru the Nuceluar submarine the Will Rogers (at Norfolk,Va) watched simulation of missles being fired. went where Marine quarters were on board, everywhere but Navy sleeping Qtrs & where missles were. That was Awesome! Been in a CH53 in a bad lighting stom,we had to land Col. Belland was afraid we would get hit by lighting + we had a huge container of extra fuel inside ! I prayed if we went down we would die a fast death . the Navy plane prop job to Hawaii was getting ready to ditch it in the ocean (El Nino), you could see the sharks, fortunately we made it to Barbers Point before dark, as the runway lights were out! The most amazing thing I was in the VA Hospital Houston for PTSD ( went to OT. to pick out a kit took it to my room and opened it, I could not believe it had been donated by a friend of Hershey family I broke down and cried Imagine the chances of having a kit from Busco end up in Houston,TX VA and a native churubusco Marine getting the the kit the odds had to be extremely High ! ( there was an article in the Tri-County Truth written by Pepper Kirtley someone sent me. An act of God. I feel as I needed that at that time! Married a Marine while we were on active duty were married 48 yrs, Valentine day, He went to guard Heavens gate in 2012. "God Bless" you all who have supported our military, +USO in any Way. it meant and means a lot, more than most of you realize ." The cards fom kids, food etc.Semper Fi " Jon Erickson Marine
