Class of 1980
Air Force, 20+ Years

I took the normal summer vacation, then left Chugwater and the Standard Station where I had worked for 4 years.

I arrived at Air Force Basic Training on 8 Sep 1980. After Basic, I was Assigned to Keesler AFB for training in the Computer Operations Career field.

The Air Force then assigned me to NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs. I actually stayed there for 15 and a half years. I loved my job. While I was there, I went from being the newest airman to the Lead Supervisor of a crew. Also during that time, I served 6 months at Desert Storm, and 3 months in Saudi Arabia.

While I was in Saudi, in May of 1995, I lost my third oldest Brother Dirk to Multiple Sclerosis.

In May of 1996, the Air Force gave me a new assignment to Peterson AFB CO. LOL, that base was 4 miles closer to my house than Cheyenne Mountain. So, I stayed in Colorado Springs. I forgot to mention that I bought a 4 bedroom house in 1990 for $43,500. I should also have mentioned that I had gotten married in Nov of 1984, and had a Daughter, Chelsea, in 1987.

So, in May of 1996, I took over as the Non-commissioned Officer in charge (NCOIC) of the the Air Fore Space Command Global Command and Control System.
I severed in that position for about 4 years. However, in 1998, I went through a divorce and met my new wife one month later, but wasn't ready to get re-married.

Then, in Dec of 1999, I was tasked to perform a Temporary Duty Assignment in Naples Italy. I was there to help AF South NATO prepare for the BIG Y2K Scare.

I came back to Peterson AFB in Feb of 2000 to take over as the NCOIC of the 21st Communications Squadron Information Assurance Office. After succeeding in that job, I was asked to take over as the Superintendent of the Squadron. I accepted, and ran the squadron for a couple of years.

I then volunteered to take over as the Base Communications Security Officer (COMSEC). I served in that capacity for a year and a half, when another Temporary Duty Assignment came up to Pakistan in 2004. I wasn't sure how safe that assignment might be, so I did the right thing, and married my fiancee before I left the states.

The Pakistan assignment turned out to be great, and I also Realise that I made a great decision to get remarried to Fara. Fara had 3 boys (Scott, Kevin, and Sean) from a previous marriage that have just been great. Scott is currently at college at the University of Huntsville, Kevin is attending High School here in Colorado Springs, and Sean is attending High School in Athens Alabama.

I finally retired from the Air Force in October 2006 as an E7 (Master Sergeant) after 26 years of service.
