Marine Corps, 4 Years
I served in the Marines as an Intelligence Specialist, got out, and joined the Army for another 11 years, when I took the early retirement at 15 years.

Navy, 11 Years
I served on 2 ballistic missile submarines (search the internet for "41 for freedom") as an Electrician's Mate, Nuclear. As a SSBN sailor, I spent roughly half of my time in the North Atlantic (out of Holy Loch, Scotland) and the other half (off-crew) in Groton, CT.
I also taught basic electronics at Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT - achieving the Master Training Specialist certification. I left the service half-way to retirement, so that I could spend time with 2 children who were born while I was on shore duty.

While in the navy, I was trained as a Nuclear Electrician's Mate. Stationed aboard the USS Dallas, a fast attack submarine, was quite an interesting time in my life. I was able to travel and do things I would not have been able to do in the "real world".
