| About Me | Immediately after graduation I enrolled in the Firefighting Academy. In Dec 1985 I was hired full time by the City of Punta Gorda Fire Department. I worked there for 19 months. I then went to work for Charlotte County Fire Rescue. After completing the required coursework and tenure, I tested for, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1993. In the following years I continued my education. I became a Florida certified Paramedic in 1995. In 2001 I tested for and was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief. I also obtained my Florida Fire Officer rating through the state college. After 2 1/2 years as a Chief Officer, I decided I had had enough. I really was not cut out for administrative level assignments. My heart was, and still is, in the trenches with the men and women of my department. I demoted myself back to the rank of Lieutenant in 2003. It truely is the best and most rewarding position in this occupation. Alas, all great things must end.
