About Lovejoy, Rex E

Trumansburg: Rex E Lovejoy, of 6026 Mayo Road, Trumansburg, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the age of 65. Born in Waverly, NY on October 27, 1946, Rex was the son of the late Harold and Marian (Edwards) Lovejoy. Following his graduation from Trumansburg High School, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. Rex served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969 after earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He returned to the Trumansburg area after his military service and worked as a painter for the Union Painters Local 178 in Ithaca. Rex enjoyed taking annual camping trips to Smith Park and hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks. When he wasn't spending time outdoors, Rex could be found working in his woodshop on various projects. He took pride in his home on Mayo Road, which he built himself. Rex was a member of the American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg, the VFW in Ithaca, and was a part of several bowling leagues at the Trumansburg Bowling Alley prior to its closing. Rex is survived by his wife, Emma (Yaw) Lovejoy of Trumansburg; three children, Melissa (Bill) Winnick of Trumansburg, Kim Lovejoy of Atlanta, GA, and Mike (Beth) Lovejoy of Trumansburg; six grandchildren, Will, Emily, Sabrina, Tyler, William, and Ryan; two brothers, Emery and Scott Lovejoy; Family Care members Helen Acor and Rhoda Winfield; and lifelong friends, Tom Lilly and Sid Thompson. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 319 Pennsylvania Avenue, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the church. Everyone is invited for food and fellowship for a celebration of Rex's life at the American Legion Post #770, 4431 Seneca Road, Trumansburg, immediately following the service.
