I was taught by Mrs. Moriarity as a 15 year old tenth grader. On the first day of class, she said "you will not have to write in this class because you do not know how to write, and I do not want to have to read it." I was a little offended by this statement at the time. As the years have passed, I have come to appreciate that her comments were from one who has much knowledge to impart to ones who are at the very start of discovery. I think that she wanted to focus on giving her students the best that she had to offer. She gave us a great appreciation of our colonial American authors; Wordsworth, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Longfellow, and others. She taught us that these authors were communicating ideas of citizenship, humanity, environment, and connection. I appreciate that she thought enough of her tenth grade class to expect that we could understand the complex ideas that she presented to us. She was one of my most favorite teachers.

Mrs. Moriarty was my homeroom teacher all three years at CHHS. She did not play! Just because the bell rang , it did not mean it was time to leave. She would yell for us to sit down. Ten seconds later she'd signal for us to go. It didn't take long for us to learn that. Although very strict, she was well liked and very compassionate,
