Jason Hawks went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA in July 2005 and graduated at the rank of Private in October 2005. Over the next year he spent time in at Camp Pendleton, CA and Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL attending Marine Combat Training and three MOS schools. In April 2006 he was certified as a UH-1 and AH-1 Helicopter Engine Mechanic and transferred to Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, NC. Jason served there from April 2006 to January 2009, when he was deployed for one year to Kandahar Afghanistan. He returned to NC in January 20010, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in March 2010, and was honorably discharged in July 2010. He now lives back in Independence with his wife, Tara, where they will both be attending WOU starting the Fall 2010 semester.

Proudly served over 20 years all up. I joined the Navy in 1981. Stationed on USS Brewton (FF-1086), USS Worden (CG-18) in Hawaii and in Japan on the USS Fife (DD-991) where I took part in Operations Desert Fox, Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the first Gulf War. Additionally served as instructor at SSC/NTC Orlando and finally retired from the Navy as a Navy Counselor after successful Naval Reserve Recruiting tours in Eugene, Or and Albuquerque, NM.
