| About Me | 1970s - worked at Fedmart for nine years, drank way too much beer, got a fiance and then an ex-fiance, somehow (not sure how) got a bachelor's degree 1980s - after Fedmart went out of business went back to graduate school, got an MBA and enjoyed the process so much stuck around and got a PhD too, too broke to do much of anything else 1990s - worked for Governors State University just outside of Chicago from 1992 to 2003, learned a lot, had a pretty successful career (tenured, three Faculty Excellence Awards, Faculty Senate President, etc.), explored Chicago - a great city (except in the winter - experienced 80 degrees below zero wind chill) 2000s - to get closer to Tucson went to West Texas A&M University (a miserable experience), got to come home in 2006 to work for NAU in the Management Program offered out at Pima College (thought the job announcement in the paper was a typo - NAU in Tucson?), in a great relationship for the last 15 years (a long-distance one for three of them - she's the reason I needed to get back to Tucson), got married in 2009 (her name is Marianne, I'm a professor, one of my dogs at the time was named Gilligan, the other one was named Skipper - pretty weird, huh) Retired from NAU at the end of the spring 2017 semester, really retired in last October after completing a project for Pima College. Now working on de-stressing (gym, stretching, meditation, etc.). Looking forward to travelling with my wife and taking some classes. I wish that I were looking forward to being a stepfather and grandfather. My stepson Beau, a really good kid, passed away suddenly of an undiagnosed heart ailment at the age of 23. He was a UA student and worked as a caretaker at a senior citizens' facility. Very, very difficult on Marianne...(read more) |
