Rollins Named Ferris Distinguished Alumnus Awardee
BIG RAPIDS – Terrence Lee Rollins, the Defense Logistics Agency’s site installation energy manager in Philadelphia, Penn., has received the Ferris State University Distinguished Alumnus Award.
The Ferris Alumni Association’s tradition of recognizing outstanding graduates is an important one, said Jeremy Mishler, director of Alumni Relations.
“This recognition helps to highlight wonderful examples of individual success and fulfillment that our students and fellow graduates can aspire to and be proud of,†Mishler said. “It also keeps alumni connected to the university faculty and administration in a way that supports Ferris through their expertise, professional networks and personal philanthropy.â€
Rollins received the award during the Alumni Association’s annual spring reunion in May at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids, Mich.
Rollins, who earned associate and bachelor degrees in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology from Ferris before graduating in 1993, now serves as the energy engineer expert for the assigned site developing local policies, procedures and processes for implementing DLA Energy Resource Management policy, guidance, project submissions and reporting requirements.
Rollins, of Norristown, Penn., received a commission from the Michigan Military Academy Army National Guard Officer Candidate School Program at Fort Custer, Mich., in 1994. He served in various positions in Johnson Controls, Inc., as an energy engineer and project engineer at the Chrysler Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Mich. from 1991 to 1995.
From 1995 to 2000, he served the Baltimore District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as the punch list team leader at the DLA Headquarters Building, Fort Belvoir, Va. He served as a prospect course instructor, mechanical engineering team leader and commissioning agent at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Springs, Md.
Starting in January 2001, Rollins served in several facility outsourcing leadership and management capacities while also serving as an adjunct instructor at Eastern Center of Arts and Technology. In June 2009 he transitioned to government service as the property manager in the Property Management Office with General Service Administration in Region 2.
He served the New Jersey Service Center as the NJSC energy manager, region building information modeling champion, leadership energy environmental design existing building representative; team leader for the Management Analysis Reporting System, and facilities management SME on the Peter Rodino Federal Building ARRA Project; and the Region 2 Computerized Maintenance Management System subject matter expert, working with the National Capital Region BIM focus group as a contributor for the recently published Facility Management BIM Guide Series 8.
Rollins has been named by Cambridge Who’s Who as the 2010 Executive Professional of the Year representing Facility Management and Energy Management. His leadership and participation in the International Facility Management Association educational programs includes serving on the IFMA Facility Fusion Conference Program Committees for both Sustainability/Environmental Stewardship and the Emerging Leader Committee. He was named as a 2007 and ’08 Legend in Energy, sponsored by the Association of Energy Engineers.
Ferris’ Distinguished Alumni Award is given to alumni who demonstrate leadership and service to their profession, to society by promoting and celebrating diversity, to community and service organizations by promoting health and well-being of its members, and to the university. All Ferris alumni are eligible for the award.
Recipients are chosen by a committee of nine alumni representing the different academic colleges. Since 1961, they have had the challenging task of choosing from the outstanding graduates who have been nominated for our Alumni Association’s highest honor – that of being called “Distinguished.â€
