Donald Franklin Edwards
Class of 1939
Army, 4 Years
Donald F. Edwards served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He enlisted in January 1942, while a student at Rider College. He served with distinction in the European Theater of Operations receiving four battle stars for the Northern France, Ardennes-Alsace (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was discharged in November 1945 and completed his accounting studies at Rider under the G.I. Bill. He had 43-yr career with the State of N.J. where his last position was as supervisor of the special procedures branch of the Department of the Treasury, Division of Taxation. He was married to his wife Nancy from 1943 until her death in 1986. He had two children, Donna, an accomplished artist and author and Douglas, a retired Army officer and federal government official. Donald died of complications related to Alzheimer's disease in 1990. He and his wife, Nancy, attended the Burlington H.S. Class of 1939 reunion in 1979.
