| About Me | Wow!! Twenty years! Please don't say "we're getting old!!". I can't believe how time flies!! I have been busy as a college student again. I went back to college after both of kids were in school full-time. I graduated in 2005! That was an experience being a non-trad! However, I enjoyed getting A's while my classmates were busy with stuff other than grades.I earned a teaching degree to be able to teach Elementary ,as well as, Middle Level Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts. I now teaching first grade on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for the Shannon County Schools. This year will be my second year there. It is very rewarding even though I have to commute an hour and a half one way twice a day. My family is very supportive It is my job to not only teach my children what all first graders should know, but also I teach them their lost language and culture. It is quite a challenge teaching them their language of Lakota!! The challenge also comes from this county being the poorest county in the United States.This experience has opened my eyes to a completely different world and I am better for it. Our children are 17 and 14 now. My 17 year-old son is active in sports and is looking forward to college. My 14 year-old daughter is also active in sports and in school.They are very much more involved in school activities than I was. I think that I regret not participating more. I have really encouraged them be involved. We still live in the Black Hills and enjoy them every minute! However, I miss Kansas and my family very very much!!! I also miss going to the store and running into all of you! If you haven't been to the Black Hills of South Dakota, you'll have to visit. Give us a call and we'll give you a tour or get you a good spot to watch the fireworks on the 3rd each year. My husband words for the National Park Service at Mount Rushmore and has connections!
