About Chris LOVED running and died of a sudden heart attack when he was 2.6 miles from the finish line.

Colonel Chris Wilson loved his country and joined the United States Army Reserves in 1984. He served the citizens of Hutchinson, Kansas as a Police Officer for the Hutchinson Police Department from April 1993 through June 1998. He proudly served our nation with dedication and honor for 33 years as a Military Police Officer. He deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm and twice during Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as to Kuwait and Turkey for Operation Enduring Freedom. He was selected to serve at the Pentagon where he earned 2 Bronze Stars and the Legion of Merit in recognition of his exceptional accomplishments and leadership. He excelled as a leader who soldiers wanted to follow and was consistently recognized as a top performer both in the military and in his civilian career.

Colonel Wilson was dedicated to his soldiers, family and friends. One of his favorite activities was spending time with other Veterans … swapping war stories or discussing the many aspects of military life: before, during, or post-deployment. Colonel Wilson was a dedicated advocate for Suicide Prevention and knew that one of the best ways to keep our Veterans safe was to give them a sense of community.
