About June Wineinger Lovell of Ventura, California, passed away on April 27th, 2022. June was born in Ventura on January 18th, 1946 and graduated from Buena High School. In 1966, June married her first husband, Mike Smith. She worked as a secretary for the Navy, and later in the administration office at Ventura College. June began her 20-year career in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in 1977. After graduating from academy class #77-1, she was assigned to the women’s jail on Poli Street, then the Camarillo station for field training, and then to Ojai where she worked patrol for several years. She was later promoted to Senior Deputy and spent eight years as a crime scene investigator. For her final assignment, June was honored to work as the Undersheriff’s assistant. In 1982, June married Richard “Dick” Seery, a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office, who later adopted her sons Michael and Peter. June retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 1997 to spend more time with her husband Dick, who passed away in 1998. In 2004, she married retired coroner F. Warren Lovell. June served on the boards of the Ventura County Deputy Sheriff’s Association and later, the Ventura County Employee’s Retirement Association. She was also a Keeper for the Sheriff’s Office. June later worked as a funeral assistant and as an omsbudsman. June loved entertaining friends and family and loved to travel. She travelled all over the United States, Europe on many occasions, hiked the Cinque Terre in Italy, and visited Morocco, India, and Croatia. June also loved genealogy and was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. June is survived by her two sons, Michael Seery of San Jose and Peter Seery of Ventura, sister Janet Wineinger O’Leary of Portland, Oregon, brother Charles “Chuck” Wineinger and sister-in-law Barbara Dornier Wineinger of New Orleans, Louisiana, niece Marion Anne Wineinger of Chicago, Illinois, and cousins in California, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, and elsewhere. There will be a graveside service at 10 am on Friday, July 29th, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. A celebration of life BBQ will follow at 11 am at the Arroyo Corto BBQ area of Arroyo Verde Park.
