Arthur "Gator" Callen

My father, Arthur Callen, taught physical education at Bronson High School in the late 40's and early 50's. I'll always remember him telling me stories about Bronson High School; like the time they had one football in the P.E. department, and that one hit on top of a chain link fence and popped- and then there was none! He loved that town! There was a man who always let him fish on his property- dad sure did love to fish! He was even given "the key to the city"by the mayor, when he decided to take another teaching job in California. My father was a gifted man in many ways, and I truly believe he would have stayed in Bronson, if his mother was not so ill. I was born in Gainesville in 1952, and have never been home. My father finished his career in Inglewood, Ca., as a vice principal at Morningside High School. He was in charge of athletics, attendance, and discipline. He retired in 1982. Dad passed away on May 14,2012, at the ripe old age of 90. I know he would have loved to go back to Florida again, one last time. He was a Gator through-and-through, as I am today. I would like to let all of his former students know that he truly never forgot them- Pat Wasson comes to mind right now. I just thought that he would have liked me to let you' all know that you were greatly loved- by a truly great man.
