Earl was the sports editor of the school newspaper "Bear Witness" during his senior year and had a popular column entitled "Earl's Pearls". Earl passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona. From the Arizona Republic (Phoenix, AZ) newspaper (June 10, 2009): He is survived by his wife Cathy, two daughters, two brothers, and countless other friends and family members. He will be remembered for his honesty, sincerity, and passion to live each day to the fullest.

Earl was a respected reserve officer with the Santa Clara Police Department while I was a regular officer. He rode with me many nights. Many good, some bad memories. We had fun.
