Robert A. Liners
Class of 1938
Dr. Robert Liners is always proud to say he is a graduate of Brainerd High School. After almost 4 years of serving our country with the U.S. air force in WWII, he did his undergraduate studies at St. John's University and graduated from Marquette University Dental School. He was presented with the "Most Distinguised Alumna" award from Marquette University in 2011. In addition to managing a successful private clinic in Watertown, WI. Dr. Bob and his wife raised four children and were an active part of their community. Beginning in 1974, they volunteered in dental missions in 3rd world countries...giving their vacation time to helping the poor, in forgotten parts of the world, who had no access to dentistry. In 1989 they established a full dental clinic in the jungle area of Guatemala and, by recruiting volunteer dentists from around the world, that clinic has been fully operating on a 4 week rotation since it started. In 1993 they established a similar clinic in the shadow of Mt. Kilimambogo in Kenya. Through their home office, they did the recruiting and management for both clinics. Both clinics have trucks to transport portable equipment to remote outposts and two years ago, at the age of 88, Bob was still helping to lift heavy generators on the back of the trucks. When they finally turned over the clinics to younger dentists, they had completed 35 consecutive years and 65 missions to India, Cameroon, refugee camps in Hong Kong and the Philippines, Mexico and others in addition to the more recently permanant clinics they established in Guatemala and Kenya. Dr. Liners has been honored by St. John's University as well as Marquette University and Rotary International. He always proudly begins his acceptance speeches with "I am a graduate of the Brainerd, MN. high school.
