Graduation Year Class of 1962
Date of Passing Jul 07, 2013
About John Gordon MacDonald Jr., "Johnny", traveled to the Dark Side of the Moon July 7, 2013 from his home at Bourne Manor after a four month hope-filled cancer journey.

He was born July 3, 1943 in Wareham, MA to John G. MacDonald Sr. and Esther E. MacDonald.

Johnny was the eldest son of a proud United States Air Force family that called Pleasant Street in Sagamore home, all the while stationed in various bases around the world, most notably post WWII China and Japan.

He graduated from Bourne High School in 1962 and attended Bunker Hill Community College.

He worked as a lineman for New England Telephone but soon heard the call of the Open Road and began a lengthy career as a long distance, owner/operator, big-rig truck driver that dust and dirt actually feared, especially if unwittingly double parked on one of his trucks sparkling chrome accessories.

His knowledge of our country's highways and byways was unequaled and the beauty, wonder, and diversity of our great nation were unavoidable topics of conversation if you asked him how to get to Anywhere, USA.

Also, in the spirit of being a true Cape Codder, John became an able-bodied fisherman, painter, carpenter, mechanic, electrical engineer and anything else he decided to do, and his expert advice on all-above related matters will be forever missed.

He was a fast friend to many and, behind his cool aviator sunglasses and silver and turquoise Zuni peace-symbol belt buckle, he was a sober and thoughtful animal lover who believed there is hope for the hopeless.

Johnny thoroughly enjoyed and encouraged generations of antics from his furry, feathered, and painted-shell back-deck buddies.

He was predeceased by his grandson Andrew MacDonald.

Johnny's wish of riding a rising canal tide into Cape Cod Bay was honored.

If desired, please make a monetary or in-kind contribution to your local cat rescue organization.
