About	Walter Archie Zeigler, 94, of Spencer, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born June 10, 1931, on his family’s farm in River Corners, Ohio to the late George and Blanche (Robinson) Zeigler. He grew up with the kind of responsibilities that shape a boy into a man; chores before school, work before rest, time spent at the sugar bush, and even running a team of mules. Those early years instilled in him a belief he carried throughout his life, that a good day’s work is its own reward, and doing the right thing matters, even when it isn’t the easiest thing to do. Walt graduated as Salutatorian and Class President of Spencer High School, Class of 1949, and shortly after, answered a higher call. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950, serving proudly during the Korean War until 1954, as a Fire Control Technician, Third Class, USN-1. His service took him across the world, including time stationed in Japan. Throughout his life, he carried a palpable love for his country, often found wearing a patriotic shirt and one of his many Navy hats. On August 27, 1955, Walt married Bernadette (Stutz), with whom he shared nearly 38 years of life, laughter, and devotion until her passing in 1993. In 2002, he married Beverly (Solecki), who walked beside him with loyalty, tenderness, and love through the years they were blessed to share. Walt built homes as a carpenter before spending many years as a Nationwide Insurance Agent. His office, a tiny white building on the corner of West and South Main, became a beloved landmark in Spencer. With its old phone booth out front and a sign reading “Walt Zeigler” almost as large as the building itself, the office felt like a perfect reflection of him; modest, dependable, and unmistakably part of the town’s heartbeat. He served his community in many ways over the years; Spencer Township Clerk, part-time mail carrier, member of the Spencer KP Lodge, former Commander for Medina and Spencer American Legion Posts. In 2021 he was honored as the “Spencer Citizen of the Year”. Walt loved a simple life filled with the things that brought him joy; gardening, working on hit-and-miss engines with his son, and traveling to engine shows near and far. He later became a Florida snowbird and was an avid, daily walker around Spencer, keeping up the routine until age 90. He was a loyal patron of The Twist for breakfast and the Spencer Restaurant for dinner. He never missed his daily dose of Family Feud and Jeopardy, always quick with a one-liner and even quicker with a perfectly timed smile. Family meant everything to him. Walt believed in reliability; if he said he would do something, he always followed through. He had a rare ability to make you laugh, to make you feel lighter, and to help you walk away a little better than when you arrived. And when he was ready to head out, he’d pat his knee and say to Bev, his signature line, “Welp, it’s time to go home.” He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Timothy (Marlene) Zeigler and Tina Tucker; son-in-law, Ron Ehrle; stepchildren, John (Debra Sue) Solecki, Jodie (Chance) Donaldson, and Becky Huff; grandchildren, Jason Zeigler, Luke (Leigh Ann) Zeigler, and Keith (Jamie) Zeigler; Josh (Andrea) Ehrle and Emily (Jordan) Smith; and Zachary (Hailey) Tucker, Cory (Michelle) Tucker, and Whitney Tucker; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Parker and Grant, Maggie, Braxton and Sophia, and George, Eli, and Anna; step-grandchildren, Hunter and Wyatt Solecki, and Connor, Charlotte, and John Duran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernadette; daughter, Cheryl Ehrle; and his sisters, Lois Simmerman and Doris Wicks. Walt leaves behind a legacy of steadiness, humor, and quiet generosity that will live on in every life he touched. He was a devoted, longtime member of the Spencer United Methodist Church on the day of his service.
Events	Visitation will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Spencer United Methodist Church, with a memorial service and military honors immediately following. Rev. Robert Ludwig will officiate. A reception will be held in the church community hall following the service. A private burial will take place at Spencer Cemetery at a later date.
