Edna Lohr
Class of 1954
Edna Lohr transferred to BCHS from Lusk, Wyoming (population 1447). She was in the Pep Club, and Thespians. Edna graduated from BCHS in 1954.
After High School, Edna went back to Lusk for about a year and worked there as a waitress.
In January 1957 she went to work for the US Navy Department in Washington, DC and later transferred to the Naval Ordinance Test Station at China Lake, California. In 1960 she transferred to the State Department and went back to Washington, DC. Her next assignment was for a two year tour of duty in Cairo, Egypt. In Cairo she was a secretary for the Agency for International Development. It was here that she met her husband, Antranig Kazandjian – an Armenian. Antranig was a jeweler in Ciaro.
In Egypt Edna lived in a highrise apartment overlooking the Nile River. She remembers the glamorous night life, visits to the pyramids, Alexandria, and her honeymoon to Upper Egypt. A most memorable time of her life to say the least.
This was 1962, and the political situation in Egypt was not good for Christians there at that time. Her tour was up, so they moved back to Los Angeles. Her first job upon her return was working for the IRS. (As you might expect, she found out quickly that she needed to say “I work for the Government” - NOT “I work for the IRS”. Quick way to lose friends.) Her husband opened a liquor store in Hawthorne (next to LA) and later a liquor store in Whittier, California.
