About Me	Cynthia A. Spooner is a frequent blogger and comment writer in many of the nation’s newspapers and online community blogs ( The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Houston Chronicle, The Root, The Huffington Post, The Root.Com, Black America.Com, Bison Roundup, The Chronicle of Higher Education and an array of others) on a variety of topics from civic engagement, civil rights, voter participation, governmental ethics, public governance and higher education. A native of Baton Rouge, LA, she currently resides in Houston, TX where she recently completed her Juris Doctorate degree at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, with a Certification in Governmental Law from Thurgood Marshall’s Center for Governmental Law in 2007. She is currently preparing to sit for the District of Columbia Bar Examination. During the past election cycle, she volunteered extensively with the Obama for America Election Protection Legal Team in Houston, TX before joining the Houston Lawyers’ Association’s local Election Protection (OUR-VOTE) initiative. Prior to attending law school, she was disabled in a violent home invasion during the 2002 holiday season. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Howard University’s School of Business and Public Administration. She has a wide variety of interests, ranging from international affairs to fashion. She spends most of her time volunteering with a host of local and national organizations and planning special events. During her professional career she has lived as far northwest as Minneapolis, as far east as, Washington, DC. She is a graduate of Leadership, Baton Rouge! and was a Civic Entrepreneurship Fellow with the Pew Partnership for Civic Engagement in 2001.
