John Szoboszlai
Class of 1970
Navy, 4 Years
Volunteered for military service in 1969. I was in the class of "70" but was shipped out before I could graduate from BPHS...My Home.. Which saddens me. I was a typical Baldwin Park kid. I was one of those students that was rough around the edges and beautiful on the inside, as I'm told. Not too many close friends but had enough to make it a memorable and enjoyable, most of the times….Was bullied a few times, and to those of you that were the bullies kiss my Lamborghini…Eat your heart out. Went to most of the football games and worked in the concession stand quite often. Had crushes on many of our beautiful BPHS ladies, but was too shy to act on most of them…dated a few. Most of my time was spent in the shops (auto, drafting, wood, etc.). Wasn't too crazy about sports, and hated P.E…I was cursed with two left feet and could barley walk without tripping. Not really I just didn't like it. I would rather go smoke by the big tree in the end zone of the football field….Ahhhh what fond memories. Really thinking back now it was a good life, and good memories…Just before shipping off to South East Aisa I was going to join the coolest and formost car club in SGV (The Precious Few) a shout out to you all, (Yo..Henery do you still have Chihuahuas?). When I joined the Navy I was stationed on the Midway, a carrier which was boring as hell. That wasn't why I joined in the first place. So I volunteered for river boat duty in Vietnam. A brown water sailor. Ok…now that wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done. I soon became hardened and molded into the survivalist I am today…There isn't any situation in this world today that I can't handle. I had three field promotions and had two purple hearts along with a handful of RVN medals…Lost far to many of my brothers, friends, comrades in that hell hole. When I was discharged and upon coming home my challenging world began…Talk about PTSD…I had that, and all the her letters of the alphabet as well. Boy I was screwed up and a asshole to boot…With five years of therapy I'm as normal as can be Ha.Ha.Ha…Went on to a few years of collage(Go UCLA). And did my stint at crab fishing up in Alaska just to break the monotony, stayed for three years. Everyone needs a little thrill every once in a while.. Worked in the manufacturing industry and still do. Have had several business, sold them off for a profit. I'm into gemstone faceting now in my spare time. Travel around the world to find that perfect rough to cut into my masterpiece. Been married three times and working on the fourth…Love is good, nothing wrong with marrage just have to find the right person (Chuckle). Have a wonderful daughter and two grand kids…Good friends…Life is good.
Another shout out to Tony Lordi (BPHS) classmate, thanks for keeping in touch, your cool dude..Well enough for now, Thanks to AlumniClass.com for this great forum and gathering hole..great site…
Peace Out….John Szoboszlai…"Go Braves"…..
