Class of 1992
Army, 13 Years
Enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1993 served for six months before going active. First duty station was Republic of Korea. I had enlisted as a Ground Surveillance Systems Operator. After Korea, I went to Fort Drum, NY where I spent one horrible winter season and knew that it wasn't for me. I then went to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School. Deployed to Kuwait, and Afghanistan. Separated in March 2004, made the mistake of joining the Air National Guard and am now in the Army Reserves as a Information Systems Specialist.

James W. Golston
Class of 1965
Air Force, 4 Years
Technical School @ Chanute AFB in IL. AFSC = Aircraft Mechanic/ Jet over 2 engines. PCS to March AFB in CA. I became Crew Chief on a B-52D. Deployed to Anderson AFB, Guam a couple of times for either six or nine months at a time. Typhoon evacts from Anderson took us to Kadena AFB, Okinawa, and Clark AFB in the Philippines. From these locations the bombing of Vietnam continued non-stop. After a very short time state-side my new duty station was Utapao AFB in southern Thailand. From Utapao crew chiefs occasionally flew on the bombing missions, so from an altitude of about 18,000 feet I came as close as I would to Vietnam. During the bomb run, you can see bombs falling from the other planes but not yours, you don't hear the bombs as they hit, but you can see all the explosions. From 18,000 feet you don't know exactly what the damage is, how many casualties there are.. that's the stuff that plays around in your head sometimes. Over the years I have felt pride in my service to country, and I have also felt guilt for my participation in that war. Still so many unanswered questions.... to all my brother and sister Vietnam War Vets, Welcome Home!!
