About Me	THE ART OF THE FLY I grew up in Sebastopol California and remember playing with my father’s fishing rods at a very early age, but it wasn’t until many years later that I “got into fishing.” I love cold water mountain streams, and trout do not live in ugly places; so the beauty of place and the art of the fly are natural companions. At first my flies were very simple, but effective (that was a great motivation). As my tying progressed, the flies became more and more sophisticated. From simple underwater nymphs, to dry flies, to flies for Steelhead, and on to flies for salmon (both Pacific and Atlantic). I have also created several patterns of my own that fish quite well. My favorite flies to tie are antique flies circa 1850 to 1950 designed for the rivers and streams of the Pacific Northwest. Many original tying materials are no longer available or are extremely expensive. I try to keep as true to form as I can while being mindful of the animals that provide most of my materials. Many of the feathers I use are naturally molted from live birds. Every part or my work is hand crafted. I tie each fly myself - with some taking several hours and some taking several days.
