Graduation Year Class of 1948
Date of Passing Aug 16, 2021
About Richard P. (Dick) Kenyon, age 91, went home to the Lord on August 16, 2021. Dick was born December 30, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas and was a long-time resident of Houston and The Woodlands, Texas.

Dick proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1950- 1954. During this time, he had the opportunity to serve in London, which sparked his love for travel.

In 1956, Dick arrived in Houston where he began his career as a photographer. Highlights include documenting the first open heart surgeries for Drs. DeBakey and Cooley and recording the early NASA program by following the lives of the first astronauts and their families for Life Magazine. On his first Sunday in Houston, he met the love of his life, Eleanore, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church where they were married in 1958. They enjoyed 62 wonderful years together.

With Ellie by his side, Dick lived a fulfilling life of travel and adventure. He also enjoyed a variety of hobbies, such as restoring antique automobiles, collecting motorcycles, and was known as “The Bread Man” while gifting his homemade baked goods to friends and supplied to local missions.

Dick was an avid member of The Wesleyans Sunday school class and local tennis group, both of which brought him great joy. One of Dick’s greatest passions was his long-term involvement with The Methodist Children’s Home. He also delighted in hearing about the lives of his neighbors, many friends, family and especially the lives of his grandchildren. Dick lovingly dedicated his last twelve years to the care of his beloved Ellie.

Dick is survived by his wife Ellie, daughters Suzi Baumgardner (Paul), Ann Hindsman (Ronnie), grandchildren Brittany Grau (Carlos), Josh Baumgardner (Abigail), and great grandson Remi.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on August 27, 2021, at 2:00 in the afternoon at Christ Church United Methodist Church, 6363 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands, Tx.
