About Me	After graduating from CHS, I graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M. I stayed at A&M to work on a Ph.D., but was hired away by Chevron in 1988. I retired from Chevron in 2020, and my wife and I built our retirement home in Goodyear, Arizona (16 miles west of Phoenix). Our home is near I-10 and has a guest house just for you, so come visit and stay with us! After proposing to her on stage in front of 200 friends, co-workers (hers and mine) and relatives at Spellbinder's Comedy Club in Houston, I married Jean in 1991. She's from Longview TX. We have three great kids: Aaron was born in 1995, Logan in 1997 and Tia in 2002. Home was where Chevron sent us: Houston TX from 1988 to 1995 (with short-term assignments in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia), Kuwait from 1995 to 1998, Bakersfield CA from 1998 to 2000, San Ramon CA from 2000 to 2002, Sumatra (Indonesia) from 2002 to 2007, Mandeville LA from 2007 to 2011, Chengdu (China) from 2011 to 2015, and Houston TX from 2015 to 2020. So far we've traveled to every continent except South America and have visited over 40 countries. After 32 terrific and hectic years with Chevron, I retired in 2020. We built a home in a 55+ retirement community in Goodyear AZ, which is about 16 miles west of Phoenix. My days are filled with jogging, hiking, pickleball, swimming, bicycling, and sleeping without an alarm clock. And when Covid-19 subsides we'll be back to traveling, and I'll resume (1) judging at local, regional, and international science and engineering fairs, and (2) visiting high schools to talk about engineering/STEM careers. After … Riding elephants at school in Indonesia Walking and petting a 400-pound tiger in Thailand Jumping off a mountain to paraglide in New Zealand Watching a tarantula crawl on my hand in Kuala Lumpur Squeezing way too tightly in a Tokyo subway Lurching on the backs of camels in Kuwait Driving 140 mph in a rental car on the autobahn in Germany Photographing hundreds of dinner rolls in the back seat of a car in southern France Fighting off thousands of flies by the beach in Western Australia Hugging 12’ pythons in Bangkok Enduring five separate security screenings at the Johannesburg airport Off-roading up and down the sand dunes near Dubai Running with my toddler in a hotel hallway in Germany to make him tired Descending down the emergency exit, only to find it stopped at the 3rd floor, in Lisbon and Bangkok Getting ‘soaked’ from two monkeys sitting on my lap in Bali Peering into the bluest of blue ice in a crevasse of a glacier in Canada Watching people yell and push while paying the bill at a cheap restaurant in Chengdu, China Walking from the airport to the pier to take a boat taxi to our Maldives hotel Ziplining in the treetops of the Malaysian jungle Gazing in wonder at thousands of twinkling Christmas lights while sweating in Singapore Parasailing above the turquoise, transparent waters of the Philippines Traipsing through ancient temples in Cambodia Being abandoned at an airport without electricity or running water in northwest Angola Climbing down into a live volcano near Jakarta, Indonesia Braving hundreds of motorcycles while walking across the street in Vietnam with baby in stroller … we’ve come home...(read more)
