Rear Admiral Paul J. Bushong
Executive Officer to
Supreme Allied Commander, Europe/ Commander, U.S. European Command
Rear Admiral Paul J. Bushong is a native of Lucas, Texas and was commissioned upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 1981.
Afloat, he has served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. His operational assignments include duty as a division officer in USS Memphis (SSN 691), home ported in Norfolk as engineer officer in USS Omaha (SSN 692), home ported in Pearl Harbor and as executive officer in USS Olympia (SSN 717), also home ported in Pearl Harbor. Rear Adm. Bushong commanded USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720), home ported in Groton, Conn., and commanded USS Frank Cable (AS 40), home ported in Apra Harbor, Guam.
Ashore, he has served as the Squadron Engineer of Submarine Squadron 7 in Pearl Harbor, as the Staff Officer Submarines at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium, and, as the Special Assistant to the Deputy Director/ Prospective Commanding Officer Instructor at the Division of Naval Reactors in Washington, D.C. He also served as Branch Head for Sea Shield Analysis and Assessment in N81 of the Navy Staff before reporting to his present duties as the Executive Officer to the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe/ Commander, U.S. European Command in Mons, Belgium.
Rear Adm. Bushong received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. He also received a Masters of Science in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has the degree of Ocean Engineer, jointly awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
