Joseph A Moneymaker
Class of 1996
Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 11, 1995 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC on December 23, 1996. Following recruit training Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker attended the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger and the Marine Corps Security Force School in Chesapeake, Va. Upon completion, he was assigned the MOS 0311/8152.
Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker reported to Marine Corps Security Forces Naval Airstation Patuxent River, Maryland June 1997 and was assigned to 3rd Section. He was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal in July 1997. After he was promoted to Corporal in April 1999 he became the Corporal of the guard for 3rd section.
Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker was then transferred in February 1999 to Marine Corps University Information Technology Branch for On-the-Job Training. He reenlisted in September 1999 with a lateral move into the 4000 field. In July 2000 he graduated the Entry Level Small Computer Systems Specialist course where he was assigned the MOS 4066. He was promoted to Sergeant December 2000 and graduated Sergeants course in August 2001. While at Marine Corps University He was responsible from Maintaining the Entire Network for The Education Command. This included the creation of the Marine Corps University website and the merging of the Education Command domain and Training Command domain.
Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker graduated Marine Corps Recruiting School in September 2003. Upon graduation Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker reported to 4th Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station Richmond, Substation Charlottesville, Virginia. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant April 2004 and re-designated to MOS 0659. During his tour on recruiting duty he was Awarded Rookie of the year his first year, Third Place Recruiter of the year his second year and on his last year he was awarded the Recruiter of the year award.
Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker was then transferred in October 2006 to 8th Communications Battalion, Support Co. Data Platoon. Upon his graduation of the Data Chiefs Course in April 2007 he deployed to Fallujah July 2007 as the Local Area Network Chief in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was promoted to his current rank of Gunnery Sergeant April 2008.
Gunnery Sergeant was then transferred to Communications Training Center-2, Camp Lejeune, NC where he currently serves as the Data Chief and Microsoft Instructor.
Gunnery Sergeants awards and certifications include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, Certified Microsoft Systems Administrator, Microsoft Windows 7 certified, Security + Certification, Network + Certification, A + Certification, Convergence Plus Certification, and Certified Technical Trainer.
Gunnery Sergeant Moneymaker was diagnosed with Cancer in Sept 2007 and has been in remission since April 2008. Once GySgt Moneymaker regained his energy he has been very active in raising money to assist those less fortunate. In the past two years he has raised over $2,000.00 for the Multiple Myeloma patient funds.
