He attended Zion Benton Township High School followed by Trade School for Iron Works. He was a member of First Apostolic Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School for 40+ years and Iron Workers Local 63. On May 22, 1976, he married Maribeth Scott in Zion, IL. Joel enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, golf, archery, target shooting and being an all around handyman. Joel is survived by his wife, Maribeth; children, Amy Torola, Tim Torola, Laura (Jeremy) Volk and Scott Torola; grandchildren, Clare Torola, Kylee Volk, Levi Volk, Reina Volk and Silas Volk; parents, Allan and Maria Torola; and siblings, Debbie (Duane) Kastamo, Eric (Shelly) Torola, James (Judy) Torola, Kay (Bruce) Kivisto, Peggy (Jeff) Luedeman, Andy (Kari) Torola, Aileen Torola, Colleen (Jim) Feldhausen, Matt (Janel) Torola and Davin (Kathryn) Torola. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
