Barbara L. Cook, age 69 of Racine, passed away August 29, 2023 @ Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine, WI.
Barbara was born June 1, 1954 in Washington D.C. to the late Robert and Twila (nee Hykes) Cook. She was raised in Racine and later in Winthrop Harbor, IL. She was a 1972 graduate of Zion Benton Township High School. Barb attended Gateway Technical Institute and was employed by the Racine County Court System for over 20 years before retiring. On May 19, 1999, she married Michael Hawkins in Racine.
Barb had many interests, including vegetable and flower gardening, but by far she was most passionate about dog rescue organizations. She opened her home to so many dogs over the years, who were truly part of her family. Barb had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. We miss her so much already, but are grateful that she is no longer in pain.
Barbara is survived by her husband Michael, her sister Kim (Tony) Fontana, a brother Tom Cook, her father-in-law Cliff Hawkins, nephew Tony (Sarah) Cook, niece Kellie Cook, great nephews Hayden, Jake and great niece Kylie. Also surviving are her precious fur babies Sapphire and Sport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Joseph and Eloise Cook and maternal grandparents Maurice and Roberta Hykes.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and the entire staff of Ascension All Saints Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care of Barbara during her final months. Services and interment will be private for the family. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
