About THEODORE SABINE OBITUARY

Theodore Carson Sabine, of Spokane, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 30, 2022 at the age of 86 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Fern Sabine, and his three brothers, Kit, Noel, and Bob. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mogie, and his niece, Robin.

Ted spent his youth in Zion, Illinois, where he was a graduate of Zion Benton High School in 1954, worked in the family business of Sabine Fine Foods, and occasionally wrote columns for the Zion Benton newspaper. After he moved to California in 1965, he graduated from UCI with a bachelor's degree in English and a master's of fine arts in creative writing. He was a world traveler, storyteller, high school English teacher, writer, camper, insect collector, shell collector, photographer, trout fisherman, sports enthusiast, and weigh trainer. He loved exploring remote parts of the globe, and during his lifetime, he taught school in two different overseas schools and visited over 50 countries on 6 continents. He published three books, the last one of which was based on his childhood experiences in Zion, Illinois. He loved exploring and learning about the natural world and donated his collections of almost 800 insect specimens and over 200 shell and coral specimens to two different university museums in Idaho in the hope that his collections could be enjoyed by and inspire others to appreciate, learn about, and respect the natural world.

Remembrances of Ted describe him as a curious, adventurous, interesting, inspirational, enthusiastic, cheerful, caring, kind, and thoughtful man who made a difference in the lives of many people, including students, colleagues, friends, and family. Ted lived a full life and lived life fully. We will miss him terribly, but he will be remembered fondly, and we are the better for having known him. Donations in his memory can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
