Graduation Year Class of 1967
Date of Passing Nov 15, 2014
About Former Zanesville resident William (Bill) A. Edwards, 65, entered eternal rest on November 15, 2014, with his family by his side, at his home in Gahanna, Ohio. Bill was born September 6, 1949 to William Oscar and Patricia (Green) Edwards. After graduating from Zanesville High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy. During a brief year and a half active duty stint, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Arlington during the Vietnam War. After that time, he was placed in the Navy Reserves. Upon returning from the Navy, Bill married Anna M. (Williams), and began a 34 year career at American Electric & Power (Beverly, Ohio), and reared two children Christina M. (Edwards) Jackson and Patricia M. Edwards in Marietta and Belpre, Ohio. Bill was devoted to his family, and a good friend to many who knew him. Many friends said, "Bill would give the shirt of his back." During retirement, he enjoyed hanging out with the guys at the Zanesville Esquire Club, playing cards, fishing and listening to blues music. But his greatest love was harness horse racing at Scioto Downs and numerous other tracks. Most important to him were his daughters, his two grandchildren, and caring for his mother whom he loved very much. Surviving are his mother, Patricia A. Edwards of Zanesville, two daughters, Christina Marie (Edwards) Jackson of Columbus and Patricia Machele Edwards of Gahanna; two grandchildren, Lauren Brianne McKee and Kalon William Gerald Jackson of Columbus; two brothers, Arthur H. Edwards of Columbus, Brian L. Edwards of Blue Rock; a sister, Nancy Edwards-Grady of Zanesville and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Oscar Edwards. A special thank you to Dr. Tarel Patel/Zangmeister Center and his staff.Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Union Baptist Church, 56 8th St. Zanesville where a funeral service to celebrate Bill's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Jerry D.
