About	Walter L. Hoffer, 60 of Jacksonville, FL formerly of Zanesville died Friday, September 20, 2012 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born Sunday, February 17, 1952 in Zanesville, the son of Louis Townsend Hoffer and Genevieve Louise (Sambroski) Buker. He was Roman Catholic by Faith. Walter retired following over 21 years with the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his distinguished and decorated Navel career as a Chief Petty Officer, Walter served on aircraft carriers; visited ports in Asia, Europe, Iceland and the Eastern Coast of the United States from Florida to Maine. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycles and his family, especially his niece and nephews. Walter is survived by his mother: Genevieve L. Buker of Cincinnati; one brother: David L. & Cheryl Hoffer of Findlay; three sisters: Antonina A. Hoffer of Odenton, MD, Diana L. & Charles Eesley of Lowell and Ellen H. & Daniel Wittekind of Maineville and two nephews and one niece. Walter was preceded in death by his father: Louis T. Hoffer; his grandparents: Walter A. & L. Juanita Hoffer and Elias and Antonina Samborski. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 27, 2012 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue with family eulogies at 6:45 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Ralko as celebrant. Inurment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery where The United States Navy will conduct Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association in Walters' name.
