About Samuel Fredrick Schaffran, Jr., 63, of Zanesville, Ohio lost his battle with renal kidney failure on Monday, April 26, 2021 with his beloved son, Stephen (aka Pook), by his side. Sam was born Friday, December 13, 1957 in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Samuel Fredrick Schaffran and Mary Jane Schaffran (Martin). He recently retired from Nickle's Bakery in Navarre where he worked since June of 1986. He had an overzealous zest for life and infectious laugh with a zany, sarcastic sense of humor. He loved sports and was a loyal Saint's, Flyer's, Buckeyes, Indian's, and Cav's fan. He loved singing kaoroke, watching Jeopardy (amazingly good at correctly answering most of the questions). He shared his love for everything and anything Marvel with his son, Steve--never missing a "first showing" at the movie theater. Prior to his failing health, Sam also enjoyed long hikes through Hocking Hills. In addition to his late parents, Sam was preceded in death by his stepson Matt Sanderson, and his sister Sandy Border. Sam is survived by his loving wife, Della Morris-Schaffran (aka Schnookums); his sons, Stephen Schaffran of the home; Scott Schaffran from Columbus; stepsons Christopher Morris of Magnolia, Jason Drobney from Canton, stepdaughter Megan Morris from Magnolia, his fur babies Oz, Phoenix, and Griffen, and other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly. In honoring Sam and his love of sports, we ask those who come to bid a final farewell to wear their favorite sports attire or your casual attire. Everyone who remembers Sam is asked to celebrate his life. Sam was proud to be an organ donor. Though he never found a kidney donor, Sam was able to donate the gift of his corneas so that he could help two individuals. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes you consider being a donor as well and/or do an unexpected act of kindness for someone in need.
