About	A funeral service for James L. Spires, 66, of Utica, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Christian Apostolic Church, with Pastor Keith Sjostrand officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church, 22 N. 23rd St. Newark. Jim passed away September 23, 2023, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. He was born August 31, 1957, in Zanesville, OH, to the late Joseph D. and Doris I. (Powell) Spires. Jim was a graduate of Zanesville High School and attended Gateway Bible College. He was a minister pastoring three churches in Ohio: Coshocton, Mt. Gilead, and Hilliard, and he also delivered for the Licking County Aging Program. Jim was loved by whoever knew him. He was an avid OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cincinnati Reds fan. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Story and all the nurses at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, and his pharmacist LeeAnn at CVS New Albany. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Beverlee A. (Burns) Spires; children, Noah James (Colleen Spoltman) Spires and Amber Renee Spires; brothers, Dale (Merna) Spires and Bill (Martha) Spires; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and his walking fur buddies, Sammy and Bentley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel Spires and Steven Spires, and niece, Misty Spires.
