Sally U. Maier, age 90, of Zanesville, died at 10:55 am Monday April 13, 2009 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1918 in Zanesville to the late Harry and Hazel Provience Flegal.
Sally was a 1936 graduate of Lash High School, and a graduate of the Meredith Business College. She had worked 20 years as an Interviewer and Placement Officer for the Ohio State Employment Office. She was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was secretary of the Shirley Himes Church Circle. She was a volunteer at Bethesda Hospital for 55 years and past president of the Sr. League. She was also a past president of Zanesville Women's Club, and was an ardent bridge player.
Surviving is a son, Stephen O. (Jacque) Sturtevant of Poway, CA; step-daughter, Mary Sue (Will) Kuhlmann of Worthington; step-grandchildren: Marie and Jimmy Kuhlmann; a sister, Jean Flegal of Newtown, PA; sister-in-law, Ellen Flegal of Hamilton, OH; a cousin, Esther Dix; many nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Ella Mae Johnson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Maier who died Aug. 12, 1988, a sister, Elaine Flegal Edwards; a brother, Robert Flegal, and sister-in-law, Ruth Smith.
Honoring Mrs. Maier's wishes, a caring cremation has taken place and a private interment will be in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
