Graduation Year Class of 1955
Date of Birth Jan 01, 1938
Date of Passing Aug 01, 2024
About Roger Allen McGlade, 86, of Zanesville passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his home of nearly 60 years. Roger was born on January 1, 1938, the third son of five to James Wilbur and Maxine (Fulks) McGlade.

Roger was in the first graduating class of the then new Zanesville High School in 1955. Roger then attended Ohio University in Athens and was a member of the O.U. diving team.

In 1959, he married Jane Carol Kendrick. They remained married until Carol’s passing in 2019, enjoying 60 years of marriage. Together, he and Carol had three children, David, Jane, and Thomas McGlade.

Roger was employed by the Owens Brockway Glass Company as a skilled tradesman, mould making and mould repair, for 40 years, and spent his retirement years as he had always, being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to more than can be counted.

Roger was shown and understood the true meaning of love, life, family, and community by his parents and the extended family of his wife, Carol; the Howard and Jane Kendrick family, and he passed those principles on to his family, his community, and to all who were fortunate enough to cross Roger’s path.

Roger had a lifelong almost childlike fascination with the simple pleasures of life; parades, circuses, zoos, eating fresh pie, and of course, ice cream to name a few. Roger was a quiet, reserved, kind, gentle, caring, loving, humorous soul who lived his entire life for others.

Some may remember Roger as a Grey-Y basketball coach, a biddy league football coach, a gardner/landscaper, or a fisherman with a zest for Canadian walleye fishing. Most will remember Roger’s lifelong, unrelenting devotion and commitment to all Zanesville High School Athletic Programs and high school athletics in general; from using his limited vacation time to cook Blue Devil chicken at the Muskingum County Fair, manning the chains at Zanesville High School football games for nearly 40 years to being present with his buddies wherever a high school ballgame was about to break out.

Roger is survived by his three children, David (Andrea) McGlade, Thomas (Betsy Beach) McGlade, Jane (Aaron) Miller; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Brandon) Williams, Spencer McGlade, Chole McGlade, Emma McGlade, Lydia (Ash) Zawerton, Evie (Brandon Barnette) Bates, and Noah (Millie Medelez) Miller; five great-grandchildren, Mirabelle Williams, Gwendalynn, Ophelia, Kai Miller, and Ada Barnette; his brothers, James and Stephen McGlade; the entire Howard and Jane Kendrick family; and more great friends and relatives, old and new, than space allows to be included.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, and brothers, Max and Michael McGlade.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. Nicholas Church, 925 E. Main Street, Zanesville, Ohio, with Father Brian Beal as celebrant, followed by a luncheon at Bryan’s Place, 49 N. 6th Street, Zanesville, Ohio. Contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 130 North Fifth Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or the Zanesville Athletic Boosters, 1701 Blue Avenue, Zanesville

Roger and I attended ZHS at the same time and graduated the same year 1955. The last time I saw Roger was in June 2022 at Bryant Place n Zanesville at a party given by Fritzie Levison for the class of 55.

From the time that I met him when I was a sophomore at ZHS I like him as a person. He had a nice [personability and was a very pleasant person and was popular in school.

My sincere condolences to his family.
