About William Robert Heck, 78, of 2727 West Ridgewood Circle, retired paymaster of the old Hazel Atlas Glass company and prominent sportsman, died at 4:30 am Sunday, August 20, 1976 in Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he was admitted August 20, 1976. He had been in failing health.

Mr. Heck retired in 1960 as paymaster of the glass company, a position he had held 42 years. He had the distinction of issuing the first check to an employee when the company started in Zanesville.

Born February 18, 1898, in Zanesville, he was a life resident. He was active in baseball and bowling leagues for many years and served actively as player and manager of Hazel Atlas baseball teams.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and sang in its Adult Choir 32 years. For several years he sang in the Christian Science Church choir. He was a member of Lodge of Amity No. 5, F & AM, a past high priest of Chapter 9, Royal Arch Masons; a 32nd degree Mason and was a past president of the Scottish Rite. Also he was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 114, serving as it’s secretary 12 years before retiring in 1974.

Surviving are his widow, Edna Campbell Heck; two daughters, Mrs. William (Constance Burlingame of Honolulu, Hawaii and Mrs. Gerald (Faith) Fell of Lima and seven grandsons.

Burial will be in Memorial Park.
