James P. Mills, 90, of Zanesville, went home to our Lord at 1:19 A.M. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 23, 1933, in Crooksville, a son of the late Raymond P. and Fern Francis (Carrothers) Mills. James played as a guard on the Zanesville High School Football Team in 1951 when they won the Championship, he retired as a cost clerk from Armco Steel in 1993. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, he enjoyed dancing with the Janes & Janes Square Dance Club, was a member of the Country Campers Club, an avid golfer and volunteered his time as Cub Master and Scout Master of troop #117 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his son, Keith (Melissa) Mills; grandchildren, Thomas (Jennifer) Lynn-Mills and Michael (Nicole) Lynn, Matthew (Amanda) Schmitz and Peter (Tiffany) Schmitz; great grandchildren, Owen Paul, Remi Rosemarie, Adalea, Alexis, Bella and Palmer and his special friend Barbara Parsons.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Carolee J. (Merriam) Mills whom he married September 26, 1952; and his sisters, Florence Hammer, Ella Barker and Virginia Heimburger.
Friends and family may call from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 12:00 NOON on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, with Pastor Mark Combs officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Carolee at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
