About Karl L. Meyer, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2009. Born February 6, 1924 in Zanesville, Ohio, he graduated from Zanesville High School in 1943, and served as a sergeant in the Air Force's 40th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron in Burma, India, during World War II. He graduated from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio in 1953. Over the next 35 years, he worked in the auto industry. He was a loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Florence Meyer; brother, Rodney Meyer; and sister, Teddy Crotzer.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Meyer; daughter, Cynthia Webster and husband, Ron; daughter, Rebecca Metzler and husband, Derek; son-in-law, David Toth; and brother, Dave Meyer and wife, Mary; He has three grandchildren, Dustin Toth, Allison Hadra and husband, Jonathan, Jason Toth and wife, Magan; and one great-grandson, Jackson Toth.

A memorial service will be held at the Chippenham Chapel of Bliley's Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Rd., at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 19. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
