About | Carolyn M. Scott, 87, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio in November, 1936, one of five children born to George and Blanche Hodgson. Carolyn graduated in 1954, from Lash High School, Zanesville. Carolyn worked for Ohio Bell as a draftswomen, and then went on to become co-owner and vice president of Ideal Transportation alongside her husband. After retirement she become a department manager at Elder-Beerman, and was a proud volunteer at Genesis Hospice. She also volunteered at West Muskingum Schools to help children that were experiencing learning difficulty. Being involved in organizations was something Carolyn enjoyed, and was a member for more than 65 years in the Order of the Eastern Star, Olive Branch 251, more than 55 years with First Christian Church, Zanesville, a long-standing member of Richvale Grange, and enjoyed outings to socialize at the Senior Center in Brownsville. Carolyn provided much kindness and comfort to her family as a caregiver, and lived life by placing the needs of others ahead of her own. She enjoyed family and friends, gatherings, and was beloved as a mother and grandmother. She supported her grandchildren and enjoyed attending as many events and activities as possible. Her warmth and many stories will be missed by family and friends. Her affection and famous, “Call me when you get home,” when a visit ended will be fondly missed. Surviving are her loving children; Rusty (Lisa), Janet, and adored grandchildren, Justin, Emily, and Elaina, a sister, Sandra Jones (Kenneth), and cherished nieces and nephews. Carolyn loved her frequent calls from special friends, church family and especially, Marilyn and Jan, chats on text messages and “the” Facebook as she was getting the hang of social media. She enjoyed FaceTime, and watching Netflix on her iPad. In addition to her parents Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Scott Sr., 2014, whom she married in 1959; a son, Steven, 1998, and sisters, Norma, Marjorie, and Barbara. Friends and family may call from Noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 P.M., on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, ZANESVILLE, with Rev. Laureen Roe officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest in Zanesville Memorial Park, Military Road. A bereavement gathering will take place at First Christian Church following graveside service. |
