Professional Football Player. For four seasons (1961 to 1964), he played at the halfback position in the National and Canadian Football Leagues with the New York Giants, San Francisco Giants, Denver Broncos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Born Robert James Gaiters, he attended Zanesville High School in Ohio and played collegiate football at New Mexico State University. During this period, he experienced two Sun Bowl titles with New Mexico State (1959 & 1960) and led the NCAA in rushing and scoring during the 1960 season. Selected by the New York Giants during the 4th round of the 1961 NFL Draft, he totaled 31 career regular season NFL & AFL games. In 1961, he contributed to the Giants reaching of the NFL Championship Game and individually produced career-highs with 460 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. In addition to the NFL & CFL, he played for three seasons (1965 to 1967) in the Continental Football League. He was inducted into the New Mexico State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1976.
