Robert M. Tanner, 39, of Zanesivlle, died at 6:47 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital ER. Mr. Tanner, a deputy for the Muskingum County Sheriff's Department, was shot while on duty.
Born February 12, 1962, in Zanesville, he was hired by the Sheriff's department in 1992. He was a graduate of Zanesville High School, class of 1980. He was a 1994 graduate of the Ohio Police Officer's Training Academy. He was also a graduate of MATC with an associate degree in Computer Science.
Surviving are his wife, Jennifer J. Janke Tanner whom he married on September 11, 1999; his parents, Robert M. Tanner Sr. and Patricia A. Harvey; a brother, Doug Tanner of Zanesville; two stepsisters; niece and nephew, Jeanette and Justin Tanner of Zanesville; father and mother-in-law, Phil and Berverly Janke of Zanesivlle; brother-in-law, Steve Janke of Utah; his beloved pets, Schultzy, Nixer and Tab Tab.
Burial will be in Memorial Park.
